Not much has changed since 1988.

Hello!

I'm Karen. I've loved photography ever since I can remember. Before I could read, I would spend hours pouring through National Geographic magazines just to soak in those gorgeous photographs. My parents gave me a 110 camera when I was 8 and I never looked back. In high school, I began using my dad's retro SLR and learned to develop my own film and prints. It's inexplicable how deeply my heart is touched by the history and memories captured by photographs. Photography is a language through which I speak best.

I'm based in New York City, but I love to travel anywhere for photography. Far away engagement sessions and weddings are most welcome. I was born and raised in Texas, so my frequent trips home are an excellent time for a session in Houston or Austin.

I shoot instinctually. I edit the photographs as little as possible because what comes straight from the camera is beautiful honesty. This honesty – brought forth from naturally occurring moments – is what makes the memory so palpable. My approach is photo-journalistic; I limit the number of posed photographs and instead, highlight the raw emotion of a moment. Through this, I'm able to create images that display the personality and passion of each person, couple, and family that I photograph.

My job is to make you look your best by shooting in flattering light, using thoughtful angles, and bringing warmth and ease to the session so that you can be yourself. I love natural light, natural locations, and intriguing cityscapes. I'm perpetually seeking out every hidden green patch in New York City. These unique landscapes will make our photographs lush and full of texture.
